ARLINGTON — The Heights Action Plan Implementation Committee reviewed version 5 of a proposed zoning change for the Business District. Committee members Kin Lau, Michael Rademacher, and Rachel Zsembery debated ground-floor commercial use thresholds of 60 percent versus 75 percent to prevent commercial loss, and discussed defining public plazas as community amenities. Assistant Director Suarez emphasized preserving the town's Housing Choice Community designation, recently awarded $2 million in state grants, while others expressed concern that residential density would erode commercial space.
The committee decided to study commercial percentage thresholds and asked DPCD staff to explore plaza definitions before incorporating feedback into version 6, scheduled for presentation on November 5.
