ZBA delays closed session over notice defect

Arlington's Zoning Board of Appeals postponed a planned executive session after town counsel flagged its public notice as legally insufficient. Chair Christian Klein said counsel found the notice "insufficient and needed to be more specific" under the state's open meeting law, and the board discussed calling a special meeting around September 29, ahead of a deadline members referenced as falling near October 3, rather than waiting for its October 13 regular meeting. Members also finalized a delayed decision in docket 3912, 15 Melrose Street, approving a special permit for a covered second-floor porch on a 4-0 roll call vote; two members did not vote because they had missed the original hearing.
The board separately approved minutes from its September 8, 2026 meeting and adopted long-unposted minutes from an August 11, 2020 meeting, part of a backlog Clerk Colleen Ralston is working through. No members of the public attended.
