Arlington educators earn bonus personal day after hitting 95 percent attendance threshold

School Committee · Meeting of July 27, 2026

Arlington School Committee grants Unit A teachers a bonus personal day after clearing the 95 percent attendance bar. The committee voted 7-0 at a remote July 27 meeting to award the additional personal day to Unit A educators after Superintendent Dr. Homan reported a calculated unit attendance rate of 95.05 percent for the 2025-26 school year — just clearing the contractual threshold, after months of manual reconciliation between the district's Frontline absence system and the town's Munis payroll platform.

The committee also approved unanimously a new Licensed Practical Nurse position aligned to the AEA's Unit D bargaining unit at the SLPA salary scale, prompted by an incoming student's medical needs, and approved year-end budget transfers that preserve roughly $250,000 in revolving account balances heading into fiscal year 2027. Member Kirsi Allison-Ampe MD flagged a potential gap in contract language around serious family illness days, asking whether they count against the unit-wide incentive even though they do not draw from individual sick-day banks; AEA representative Jenna Medeiros said she believed the contract treats them as non-exempt, and Dr. Homan said she would verify.

The Unit D attendance incentive calculation remains incomplete and is expected at the first fall meeting of the school year.
