Arlington Redevelopment Board Continues Cannabis Permit Hearing to September 28

ARLINGTON — July 6, 2026 — Arlington's Redevelopment Board continues cannabis permit hearing to September, citing incomplete plans. The board voted unanimously at its July 6 meeting to continue the special permit hearing for Calix Peak of Mass Incorporated's proposed marijuana retail establishment at 251 Summer Street to September 28, directing the applicant to revise plans on more than a dozen issues before any vote. Chair Ken Lau and members Shanna, Vince, and Steve compiled a joint list of required changes including selecting wood fencing to meet zoning section 6.1 parking setback requirements, coordinating with the town engineer on stormwater drainage, rebalancing the signage plan so the building's auto-sales tenant retains a sign allowance, and correcting discrepancies between monument sign versions in submitted drawings. Three abutters at 17 Pine Avenue and 277-281 Summer Street spoke in opposition, citing traffic safety on an already congested corridor, drainage concerns tied to a 1977 town-installed rear catch basin, and privacy impacts on homes directly facing the proposed 13-space parking lot. Calix Peak, which holds a host community agreement awarded by the Select Board in February 2022, is proposing to convert 1,260 square feet of a former gas station building into a cannabis retail store with a shared auto-sales tenant remaining on site.
