Arlington board approves Calix Peak dispensary permit

Redevelopment Board · Meeting of September 28, 2026

Arlington Redevelopment Board approves Calix Peak cannabis dispensary 5-0, denies lit sign. Chair Kin Lau and members Stephen Revilak, Vincent Baudoin, Michelle Shortsleeve and Shaina Korman-Houston unanimously backed the special permit for 251 Summer Street after rejecting an internally lit cabinet sign as barred under zoning bylaw section 6.2.3(B). Conditions include reorienting bike racks for four spaces, a dividing cement berm, and a "good faith effort" to resolve fencing with a Summer Street abutter who said the project's site plan "absolutely ignored" her property.

Neighbors cited traffic data showing up to 43 cars during Saturday peak hours and 475 feet of queuing. Separately, the board ordered removal of a disputed false window at a long-troubled 455 Mass Ave project, with Lau calling the plastic panel unacceptable: "I don't think we want to be approving plastic windows in town." Resident Christopher Walters later warned the board not to "hand the keys to the kingdom over to developers," prompting a heated response from Lau.
