Arlington School Committee Approves Four Union Side Letters, Begins Vacancy Search

ARLINGTON — November 6, 2025 — Arlington School Committee approves four union side letters and launches process to fill vacant board seat. The committee voted unanimously on all four memoranda of agreement with its Arlington Education Association bargaining units following a closed executive session at its November 6 meeting, including a side letter extending children-of-educators enrollment to Unit C and Unit D members, a rounding agreement on an attendance incentive that hit 94.9 percent against a 95 percent target, a DEI coursework tracking resolution, and a clarification of serious family illness leave for paraprofessionals. Committee member Jeffrey Schlickman urged the Select Board to hold an override vote at the earliest possible date — the March town election — warning that a delay to June "will lose staff" and drain the spring hiring pool as the district's three-year override plan expires at the end of FY26. The committee also approved the vacancy process for an open seat, with applications due to Executive Assistant Amy Diggins by November 14 and candidate interviews set for November 18, and received word that the district has secured $150,000 in state earmarks for a Thompson School elevator and classroom AV equipment.
